Please join us for the next event in our Public Lecture series for 2018-19, where Dr Lucy Grig (Edinburgh) will be talking to us on ‘Towards a History of Popular Culture in Ancient Rome’.

Dr Grig has kindly provided the following abstract:

Can we talk about popular culture in ancient Rome? What did it look like and how did it change as part of the broader social and cultural changes of Late Antiquity? This lecture seeks to get beyond the clichés of ‘bread and circuses’ to give a more nuanced view of the Roman world, taking insights from ‘history from below’.

This talk will be held in Lecture Theatre 6 of the Geoffrey Manton Building at the Manchester Metropolitan University, and refreshments will be served following the talk to celebrate the end of this year’s lecture series celebrating the work of women in Classics and Ancient History.

To help us with catering, please sign up for a free ticket via Eventbrite: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/ca-public-lecture-towards-a-history-of-popular-culture-in-ancient-rome-tickets-58555154042

We hope to see many of you there!

This talk is jointly hosted with the Society for the Promotion of Roman Studies.
